Visa Cancellation / Transfer

Visa Cancellation

International students are required to be physically present in Malaysia to complete the cancellation of their Student Pass through the UMT International Centre.

Students who leave Malaysia without completing the Student Pass cancellation process may be subject to the following : 

  • Forfeiture of the Personal Bond deposit.
  • Difficulty in obtaining future Malaysian visas or passes including a Student Pass, Employment Pass or other applicable immigration passes.
  • Potential complications with future immigration applications due to the Student Pass remaining active in the Malaysian Immigration system.

Students are therefore advised to complete the Student Pass cancellation process before departing Malaysia and to ensure that all required procedures and documents have been duly completed.

When students need to cancel their visa?

Below are conditions that require visa cancellation :

01GRADUATED/ COMPLETED STUDIES FROM UMT
Students who have completed their studies must cancel their student pass and their dependent pass. UMT International Centre will give instruction to the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) to cancel your student pass and make a police report if student fails to cancel his pass upon graduation.
02DEFERMENT OF STUDIES
A student who defers from studies must get approval from university and must cancel a student pass and dependent pass (if any)
03WITHDRAWAL OR TERMINATION FROM STUDIES
A student who withdraws from his/ her study must inform UMT International Centre staff before leaving Malaysia. The student pass and the dependent pass will be cancelled, upon submission of passport, withdrawal letter from faculty and confirmed filght ticket
04CHANGE PROGRAM OR CHANGE UNIVERSITY
A student who have accepted admission offer letter from other institution must cancel UMT student pass. A student who had change a programme within UMT also requires to cancel current student pass and apply variation to new programme

Visa Transfer

A student Pass Transfer is applicable to international students who are transferring their studies to Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) from another Malaysian higher education institution, subject to the approval of the Malaysian Immigration Department and other relevant authorities.

  • Be accepted for admission to a programme at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).
  • Hold a valid Student Pass issued by the Malaysian Immigration Department.
  • Meet the academic and admission requirements stipulated by UMT.
  • Comply with the immigration requirements and regulations applicable to Student Pass transfer.
  • Obtain the necessary approval from the Malaysian Immigration Department before commencing studies under the New Student Pass.

Below are conditions that require visa transfer : 

01NEW PASSPORT
Student have a new passport but the student pass/ dependent pass is still valid in the previous passport.
02DAMAGED OR LOST PASSPORT
Change or losses/ damaged the passport must apply for transferring the current pass to the new pass

Application Procedure

  1. Obtain an offer of admission from UMT.
  2. Submit the required documents to the UMT International Centre.
  3. The International Centre will review the documents and process the application in accordance with the applicable immigration requirements.
  4. The application will be submitted to the Malaysian Immigration Department for consideration and approval, where required.
  5. Applicants must comply with any additional requirements or requests for documents from the relevant authorities.
  6. Upon approval, the Student Pass transfer process will be completed in accordance with the prescribed procedures.

Important Notes

  • Approval of a Student Pass Transfer is subject to the discretion and approval of the Malaysia Immigration Department.
  • Students are advised not to make any travel arrangements or leave Malaysia until they have received appropriate advice from the UMT International Centre.
  • Students must ensure that their current Student Pass remains valid throughout the application process, where applicable.
  • Additional documents or requirements may be requested by the Malaysian Immigration Department.
  • The processing period may vary depending on the Immigration Department’s procedures and requirements.
  • Students are responsible for complying with all applicable Malaysian Immigration regulations throughout the transfer process.
