The Fulbright Malaysia Ambassador Program Workshop organized by the Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE) was successfully held at the JW Marriot Hotel, Kuala Lumpur bringing together Fulbright Ambassadors representing public and private higher education institutions throughout Malaysia. The workshop served as a platform to strengthen collaboration among institutions and enhance participants’ understanding of the academic and professional opportunities available through the Fulbright Program.
Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) was represented by Associate Professor Dr. Tuan Nurul Sabiqah binti Tuan Anuar, who serves as UMT’s Fulbright Ambassador. Her participation reflected UMT’s commitment to expanding international engagement and creating greater opportunities for the university community to participate in global academic and professional development programmes.
Throughout the workshop, participants were provided with comprehensive information on various Fulbright initiatives including student exchange programmes, international internship opportunities, staff mobility programmes for research, teaching activities and professional development programmes for academic staff, particularly those with backgrounds in language and linguistics. The workshop also served as an important platform for networking, sharing best practices and fostering collaboration among higher education institutions in support of the national internationalisation agenda.
In addition, a special session on scholarship and funding opportunities available under the Fulbright Program was conducted for all ambassadors. The session provided detailed information on eligibility requirements, application procedures and placement opportunities for individuals interested in pursuing studies, conducting reseacrh or participating in professional development programmes in the United States.
The workshop also featured presentations and remarks by several distinguished speakers, including Curtis Johnson, Executive Director of MACEE, Mr. Tariq Affendi Yahya Osman, Senior Principal Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and Grace Choi, Cultural Attache at the U.S. Embassy in Malaysia. They shared insights into the background and mission of MACEE, highlighted the roles of the respective organizations involved and emphasized the importance of strategic collaboration between Malaysia and the United States in advancing academic mobility, research collaboration and talent development at the international level.
Therefore, UMT’s participation in the workshop is expected to create new opportunities for international collaboration, encourage greater involvement in Fulbright programmes among university staff and students and further support the university’s efforts to develop globally competitive graduates and academics.
