The International Centre was officially establish on 1 January 2009 to support UMT’s internationalization agenda and provide services for international students. Initially under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the centre was led by a Director, Supported by officers and administrative staff to implement its core functions.
In March 2013, the Centre was restructured into two units:
- International Networking- under the Corporate Communication
- International Services Department- under the Registrar’s Office
On 4 November 2013, International Networking was renamed the International Networking Office, led by Dr. Jarina Mohd Jani. The office focused on enhancing UMT’S global networks, supporting university units in international collaborations and publishing the international magazine Voyages of Discovery (VOD).
On 1 October 2015, the office was renamed the International Centre to serve as a one-stop centre for all internationalization initiatives, reintegrating services for staff and international students. This aligns with the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) objectives and the “Global Prominence” target of the Higher Education National Key Result Areas (PPPM-PT 2015-2025).
